chronicle: November 2013

Alaus oculatus.2Where were we? Hanging and haranguing in Whitechapel, for one thing. That favourite haunt, flaunting its freedoms across the road from East End pieties, that jewel, the Indo bar. The pizza, the wine, the company, the devilries of The Near Jazz Experience, all made up for the sad fact that the PA system was like a mumble in a milk churn. Better luck next time, and the new poems will still be new.

Also new is a band called Click Beetle, the bringer of tunes, old and new, mostly never performed before, gathered from dog-eared archives and the fresh scribble of pocket notebooks. Dozens of these pieces are being rattled into life in the rehearsal studios of Dalston and Stoke Newington, and plans are afoot to start knocking about town in February.
