bone-tired from flights and festivities
I grope to sketch
even the skeleton of a poem
stunned and surrounded
by evolutionary convolutions
easy enough
to make a display case
of names alone
skink and spoon worm
manatee and ray
pickled predators
stare at fleshless bones
a monkey-faced bat
squints from a jar
a coral snake is forever coiled
at another table
tiny fingers coax creatures
from coloured paper
expanding the menagery
this summer saturday.
