As Little England casts itself adrift on the open seas of neo-con nightmares, guided only by the foghorn fart of The Last Trump, we bid a frowned farewell to 2016 and resolve to make everything all right by writing hundreds of poems and shoving air down a brass pipe.
Roll up or stroll on for another year of trombone poetry and band activities recollected and documented for an indifferent posterity in the erratic yet persistent Trombonicle.
The trombone poetry highlights of 2016 included Rodger’s Party, Linear Obsessional, Jazz Verse Jukebox in Hoxton Hall, Eastbeat in Kingsley Hall, amid other outbursts, while adventures continued with Yiddish Twist Orchestra, Roberto Pla’s Latin Ensemble and other fine outfits. A hard act to follow, of course, a year ago, was The Mingus Big Band, for twelve ear-opening shows at Ronnie’s.
It’s time to look forward, with promises and/or predictions for 2017. Click Beetle will scuttle out of its hibernation, along with The Blowpipes, The Yiddish Twist Orchestra will make another album, and there will be the much-delayed unveiling of a reckless new project this Spring.
Meanwhile, we gear up for a short tour of Hull: follow @trombonepoetry for updates.
