Last month was rounded off with a reading from Better Late Than Sorry at Morocco Bound Bookshop, a great little haven of books and beers just off Bermondsey Street. A strangely mixed open-mic of long poems about sexual abuse plus the clink of bottles with a Russian poet. Perhaps we’ll be back?
The debut trombone contribution to new band, A Bigger MOUTH at Hundred Years Gallery was a free-wheeling treat that will be repeated this month with another line-up. A recording of the gig was broadcast on ResonanceFM a few days later and is archived online, but the recording level was so low that it could hardly be heard. Mike Walter, the architect of this project, has plans for a proper recording later this year.
There were two last-minute drop-in gigs on the same day, one in the lovely Morden Arms in Greenwich with Sugar Foot Strut (pictured), and the other with the John East Project at the 606 Club in Chelsea, bringing the gift of a reunion with that unique drummer, Mark Fletcher.
Out and about in the wilds of Covent Garden: a gig for somebody’s 360th birthday.
In June comes a long-awaited return visit to Hull, where I hope to cajole two different bands to play my tunes. Some of these were played in previous Hull projects and others may be first performances. We’ll see, or hear.
There’ll also be a short spiel, in between those gigs, at Jim Higo’s spoken word / poetry thing, Away With Words.
More June news soon.
