This trombone has been hooting at full pelt with a band that is as energetic and joyous as it ever was: Snowboy & The Latin Section. In May the roof was raised in Billericay at The Players Lounge and then in Stroud at The Sub Rooms. This weekend, there’s a chance to catch the crew firing on all cylinders at a free festival in Barking.
The month kicks off with a series of gigs in beloved Hull, where I will be trying to coax two different bands to play some original tunes, some of which were written for various Hull festivals and other events. Videos will be made, and possibly shared.
An unusual event in the listing below is a book launch, not for a poetry book but a design book. No need to blather on about this here, but for those interested, there’s a new blog post: Metadesigning.
In the interests of joining more dots, let me mention that, beyond the odd snap included in these Trombonicles, there are other outlets for imagery: a few accounts on Instagram, if that’s your kind of thing.
The first one, @taylortrombone, enjoys photography for its own sake, with hardly any pictures of trombones.
The more recent @trombonepoetry has begun to document that project and will have videos as soon as that director’s chair has been mended.
The lamentably inactive Blowpipes Trombone Trio has a fledgling account @blowpipestrombonetrio that has been recycling old gig photos.
Click Beetle @clickbeetletrio has a fine gallery of beetle drawings from our audiences. There are faint rumours of the odd gig later this year.
The Vintage Tea Dance Orchestra, currently reeking of mothballs, is also lurking @VintageTeaDance.
Mick Collins Legacy Jazz Orchestra has just joined: @mickcollinsjazz
