Jump leads were applied and The Blowpipes hooted back into life again last month for a performance for a great Bermondsey charity, Bede House. Original tunes included Pass The Mustard, Jog and Surrey Docks Jig along with Llanover Welsh Reel, Jaleo de Jerez and Serenade to a Cuckoo and many other wonders.
There was a trip to the seaside, as a trombone was needed for a gig in Brighton with Lo Ke Ba, playing Afro-Cuban music at The Ironworks. Their album, Delirio, is available from the Lo Ke Ba website.
A whole set of my tunes was played by a crew put together by Williams Cumberbache on a chilly Sunday at Grow in Hackney Wick. One number, Jay, was caught on video.
Mike Walter’s project, A Bigger MOUTH, went into the studio for three days for several hours of group improvisations that will lead to an album next year, plus a vinyl record, all being well. A remarkable experience, generating all that music with Mike, Gabriel Keen, Mark Roberts, Alan Wakeman and Lu Edmonds. Some of us will be convening again on Wednesday.
Best wishes for the winter!
