chronicle: March 2009

Cafe Oto in Dalston hosts a Sunday afternoon poetry/music event presented by the ebullient Peter Philpott. The unusually chirpy experimental poet Mike Weller recited from his multifarious pamphlets, trombone poetry brought soundwalks, foundlings and improvised interjections, and Uru-Ana, a bracing brace of Alexes, offered spoken word and noise theatrics.

The Blowpipes enjoyed a debut gig for Freedom Of Expression at The Green Dragon in Croydon, sounding out old favourites like Bukowski Blues and El Cuchillo, not to mention the very moving anti-nationalist national anthem, Zenoria. This pocket orchestra hopes to enter the Dragon again some day. Meanwhile, this month, The Blowpipes will be featuring a special guest, the renowned free-improviser, Alan Tomlinson.
