Highlight of the month was the first manifestation of an adventurous project called Hearing Things, sketched and projected back in February: Trombone Poetry engages with esteemed poet John Robinson in cahoots with the most creative percussionist you’ve ever heard, Gary Hammond.
This shindig was brought to life in Hull in the cool yet amiable setting of Humber Street Gallery.
John Robinson offered a typically rich selection of poems, alternating with the house trombonist either reading from Better Late Than Sorry, Beetles and Robots plus a handful of new poems, or spontaneously duetting with Gary Hammond. John also called on the orchestra to accompany some of his poems.
There is some loose talk of doing this again next year. Some people never learn.
