Trombonicle 68 / Hullagain

John Bennett’s band did some more recording for an eventual album in a fairly well-known studio in Maida Vale. It seems incredible now that we did a week at Ronnie Scott’s decades ago. But there’s life in the old tunes yet.

Roland Perrin’s Blue Planet Orchestra did a great gig at The Elephant Inn, Finchley. Let’s hope this is the start of a new phase. Some video will emerge to charm the planet at some point.

houndIt was good to rejoin Sugarfoot Strut in the Morden Arms for a few afternoons last month and see some old faces again.

This month sees the launch of another book, Marinets, which presents a collection of very compact poems called marinets, which have maritime or aquatic themes. This is all enhanced by a selection of photographs by Hilary Morton. Given the contents, an ideal place to launch the book seemed to be Hull, and this has also brought other musical adventures in the same week.

There will be the first ever joint performance by The Blowpipes and Click Beetle, who will also play in combination to finish the gig. All the music will be original pieces.

With Jim Higo helping us out with the Hearing Things project, more original music will be played by me and Gary Hammond for the book party, and Friday’s gig in Beverley will present a completely different set of originals.
