Trombonicle 49 / onwards & outwards

What an honour it was to be with the augmented Roberta Pla Latin Jazz Ensemble for a weekly residency at CLF Art Lounge & Roof Garden. Four great gigs with the maestro.

There were some optimistic discussions about trying to resume another residency, with Click Beetle, at the wonderful Scooter Caffè but we have learned to our dismay that the venue has now permanently closed. We must search elsewhere.

However, as indicated last month, Mike Walter’s band, MOUTH, will be resuming its monthly residency at Hundred Years Gallery. This unique venue near Hoxton Station is also kindly stocking a few copies of Better Late Than Sorry. MOUTH aims to make a recording this autumn.

The Yiddish Twist Orchestra emerged from hibernation to agitate the hoofers at Towersey Festival. There are some promising murmurings of new developments for this temporarily shy ensemble. The trombonist has even offered a new song.

Nolita Golding presented an incredible band, directed by Alex Wilson, for her Soulful Latin Live Experience at Pizza Express in Holborn. The rocket has been launched.

Right at the end of this month, we return to Scaledown, an irregular haunt for trombone poetry since September 2004. See you there!

In July, Robots Rebooted spoke of the clanking success of Robots as it clattered to the top of the Robotics chart on Amazon. The second edition achieved the same fleeting result but was eventually displaced by more humdrum books. What can be done?
