Trombonicle 72 / prom concert

It was August: a trip to the seaside plus a jaunt down the Medway.

Cultural catalyst John McKiernan has somehow managed to make an amazing arts centre in an old chapel jutting out into the estuary at Gravesend.

The Fourth Portal @ St Andrews Art Centre hosts a regular Hypermedia DIY Open Space event that seemed an obvious location to offer a few poems from Kneptune and Marinets.

Online orders for those books should come flooding in any minute now.

Downriver and round the corner, it was time for an end-of-the-pier show at Herne Bay, where Snowboy & The Latin Section rattled the deckchairs and vaporised the candy-floss for Herne Bay Jazz 2024.

The band is back in action at Ronnie’s next month, for two shows that may have already sold out.

Before our set, there was a long-awaited chance to see and hear pianist Frances Knight, who played in various bands with this trombonist in her London days. As can be seen here, she knows an opportunity when she sees it.

The photo below of the main stage is perhaps not the best picture of Frances in concert, but the band’s music seemed to be getting a couple of locals in the mood.

The inaugural lecture for Creative Network Southwark went well, though fifteen minutes is not quite enough to outline the history of “creative industries”, explain the Tetracosm, present Kneptune and spell out how a poet can sell loads of books in Gravesend.

A lecture tour is inevitable.

September sees the return of A Bigger Mouth‘s monthly residency at Hundred Years Gallery. News of a remix and the imminent vinyl release will appear on Instagram, if that’s somewhere you inhabit.
